An unexpected MacGyver day. So one day I was ill and slept to midday. My roommate decided to get a day off which is rare even on weekends. He did not inform me which never happened before.

So he and my second roommate left for a walk before I awoke

 which never happened before.

And they took my key by accident

  which never happened before.

When I woke up it turned out that there is not enough food in the fridge to last for a day

   which never happened before.

And the lighter’s gas went off

    which never happened there before.

And there was only one matchstick left in the box for a day

     which never happened before.

And that day I was in the commission to examine student’s semester projects presentaitons. This I was familiar with. But internet connection was so poor it was impossible to participate in any way.

What would MacGyver have done?

His sister managed to order food delivery while being in a different country which helped a lot.

He put a petal of a disassembled satellite dish from under his bed to direct router’s WiFi to his laptop - this solved the streaming issue.

Then when the food was delivered behind the door he disassembled the paper clip and bent it with the clamp that was left by a roommate. This alowed to get to the door lock. The lock was actually broken and the barrel was split in two which made learning picking even harder. But after a couple minutes of aimlessly wiggling the pins the holy voice of picking came clearly to his mind and started mumbling “click on one, nothing on two, three is binding, nothing on four, let’s get back to the beginning .. “. After a few moments the barrell turned. The next half an hour passed trying to get the split core past the pins without being stuck. MacGyver had to use more force to turn the core and applied improvised screwdriver-clamp lever to get a better grip. And when it all seemed to break the lock tured again and there were his gift that tortured with its smell.

And MacGyver was saved and so the episode ends.

Moral of the story: learn to pick locks

PS: the eternal ignighter was trashed by rommates when they bought another single-use lighter
